Top Ten tips for Travelers to Avoid Altitude Sickness

Here are few tips travelers planning to climb high attitudes

1. Always carry enough water when you plan to climb high altitude. Drinking water helps in replacement of body fluids and thus may help in heavy breathing. However one shouldn’t drink too much water if any of the symptoms of altitude sickness  exist, as that can be too dangerous.

2. Expert's advice helps. If you have ever experienced any of the altitude sickness before in your earlier trip and yet planning for another trip, it is advisable to get an expert’s advice. This however depends on how extreme sickness you experienced earlier.

3. Visit your doctor. If you suffer from any respiratory ailments such as asthma or any other, it is advisable to get doctor’s opinion before planning a trip. Your doctor may provide you with some helpful tips as well as medications during such emergencies.

4. Exercise and prepare yourself. Performing light exercises or yoga before climbing high altitudes prepares one for the same.

5. No Alcohol. Avoid consuming alcohol before the trip.

6. Is your tour all set? Always make sure that the tours that take you to such trips including mountain climbing are very well equipped to handle medical emergencies if needed.

7. Try and have light lunch before your trip. Best would be to consume some fresh vegetable salads and fruit juices.

8. Go slow. Though it's very exciting to climb and reach the top, yet if it troubles you always try to be slow.

9. Oxygen cylinders should be available. Indeed if you are been told to carry them along see that you have the required quantity.

10. Be prepared and thus enjoy your trip without any complications.
