How to roast whole spices in the microwave

Microwave gladly does most of the tedious tasks such as roasting spices like coriander seeds or aniseed, or even cumin seeds for you quiet effortlessly. While roasting these whole spices on a gas top one has to worry about not burning them down. But here in microwave roasting whole spices is more of a joy and less of a chore.

To roast whole spices for eg - coriander seeds in a microwave follow these simple steps


1. On MW + Grill mode with 70% Power, heat a crusty plate for around 4 mins.

2. Now spread the whole spices on the circumference of the crusty plate.

3. Place it in the microwave and cook on the same power level for 2 minutes. Do stir in between.

4. Stand for 5 mins and then grind the whole spices into fine powder.

In case your microwave does not come with a crusty plate use a microwave safe dish and spread the whole spices on the same.

Microwave on HIGH for around 4 minutes with stir in between.

Allow the spices for stand for 5 mins and then grind it.

Tip: You could use the same method to roast mix whole spices and make your own fresh Garam Masala.
